As I’ve discussed before, Web 2.0 is all about interaction. Today we are going to talk about using the social networking site, Facebook, to connect with potential clients. One thing I often hear about Facebook is “I’ve signed up for an account. Now what? How do I get clients and referrals?”
The key to sites like […]

Feeding the Blogosphere with Content to Consistently Connect with Clients

Basically a feed contains the latest updates from a blog or website. Common formats are RSS and Atom. Nearly all feed formats are in an overarching format called XML. That’s why feeds are sometimes referred to as XML. While that might seem a little technical, here are the basics on feeds and what you need to know to understand their importance.

Here’s how feeds work:

Rogala on RSS — What the Heck is RSS Anyway?

If you’re new to the blog scene, and I know many who are, it’s important to have a basic understanding of RSS.

real estate marketing - rss feedsRSS commonly means really simple syndication. RSS is a piece of code that takes all the articles on one topic, (real estate, for instance), and places them in a simple format for viewing. The RSS feeds are subscriber or opt-in based. People who write articles have to opt-in to the RSS feed to keep up to date on the particular topic of interest as do people who want to display the articles on their site.

A news aggregator is the software that goes and grabs the feeds of your favorite blogs and tosses them to you. News aggregators can be Web Based like bloglines.com or actually on your computer like pluck.com or newsgator.com. You can subscribe to feeds via various means. I personally use FeedBurner. This gives my readers an option to receive notifications directly to their inbox via email when fresh, real estate marketing related, content is posted.

Keep it Real and Personal to Consistently Connect with Clients

A common mistake bloggers make is being too technical, or even too wordy (Don’t’ get me wrong, there is a time and place for both long and short copy. That’s a discussion for another day.). Your blog is an extension of you. Of course you want to be professional. At the same time, you want your personality to shine through so you can really connect and build relationships with your readers. These readers are both potential and regular clients. They have subscribed to your blog because they want more of you. Be relevant and succinct so readers are getting information they need in easily digestible chunks.
