Are there benefits to not having goals?
Tue, Jan 27, 2009
Have you worked on integrating goal-setting in your life? If not, remember, there are some benefits to not setting goals:
- You won’t miss any deadlines
- You don’t have to feel guilty for missing a goal
- You don’t have to come up with excuses for missing a goal
- You don’t have to worry about missed opportunities – you aren’t looking for any
- You can save your energy for the mundane tasks of life
- Your best effort is always good enough
- You can avoid thinking about the future – come what may
- You can do what you feel like, when you feel like it
- You can put anything off for tomorrow
- Your priorities change all the time
- You don’t have to worry about how you’ll handle success
- You’ll never fail, because you won’t ever be trying for something
And finally, You can let other agents do the work and get the clients
Goal-setting and goal-achieving are two different things, but you can’t have one without the other. Start small, with something you’ve been wanting to get done, but haven’t gotten around to. Use the feeling of accomplishment you get to fuel the next goal, and so on.

I suppose the old adage “nothing gained nothing lost” rings true here…but I think also the disadvantage of not having goals and implementing them probably far outweighs the “benefits”!
