Need another reason to start using Social Media?
Mon, Nov 2, 2009
Today’s web 2.0 wrap-up comes from John Novak at ActiveRain, and it’s more of a newsworthy item than a new tool or site. His post Google and Bing To Index Social Media Content shows just how permanent this Social Media thing is. You know it’s here to stay when Google and Bing change their algorithms to include it.
I recommend you read his whole post, but here’s a recap – until now, Google did not specifically work to include tweets in their search engine results. But that is changing. They’ve announced that they (along with Microsoft’s new search engine, Bing) will start to index tweets, which means that individual tweets will begin to show in search engine results.
This is GREAT news for Realtors® that are active on Twitter. You’re already on there, connecting with people, sharing helpful info, and becoming known as an expert in your area. Now, you’ll be able to gain more exposure outside of Twitter, by having those keyword-rich tips, videos, articles and conversations show up in search engine results. I would imagine that in a small town area (or for a specific neighborhood), a Realtor® that has a well-optimized website, blogs regularly, and is active on Twitter could quickly take over the first page results on Google.
Imagine how much of an expert you’d become in the eyes of anyone looking for real estate in your town if your information was all the first page of Google, from multiple sites, on multiple real estate topics, conversing with multiple people from the area. I think that would have an amazing impact on a potential client!
So take a good look at John’s post, then if you haven’t joined Twitter already, do it! And feel free to download my Twitter Essentials Guide on the sidebar for a little bit of guidance.
