Organize your Friends in Facebook

So you have a Facebook profile. Hopefully you’ve filled it out completely with all your current business info, and added school details and maybe even places of past employment. Maybe you’ve even gone out and actively looked for people in your area to connect with and sent a Friend Request.
But what then? Do you throw all these new friends into the same list as your cousin and your college roomate? Just as there is great value in setting up lists and categories in your contact management system or your email program, there are lots of advantages to doing the same in Facebook.
Facebook allows you to create different Friend lists so you can control who can see what updates, photos, etc. Today’s Web 2.0 wrap-up comes from a post by Bridget Ayers.
Everyone who accepts your friend requests goes into your friends list. As this list grows it becomes one big, unorganized, mishmash of potential. Luckily, Facebook allows you to bring order to your database by grouping your friends into lists. You can create lists for your childhood friends, family, co-workers, clients, strategic business partners, and so on and so forth. By creating lists to organize your Facebook friends you will be turning your social profile into a strategic social and business resource.
Important things to remember about organizing friends on Facebook:
* Start early, the longer you wait to create lists the more time it will take
* You can add friends to more than one friend list
* Friend lists should be treated like the categories and distribution lists in your contact management software
* Friend Lists can have specific privacy policies applied to them
Check out her post, then think about instituting new Friend lists on your own Facebook profile. Remember, the longer you wait, the more time it will take.
And I’d love to hear from you if you’ve already started this. How much time would you say it’s saved you? Have you found you’re able to better target updates, photos and business info?

Love what you are doing on this site and how you are applying new era techniques to traditional entrepreneurs. And, nice tip on the FaceBook lists.

Good information! We’ve created different “friends” lists – family, clients, other realtors, etc. It is a great way to do “contact management”.
