Weekend Web 2.0 Wrap-Up: Web 2.0 interactivity comes to email signatures

Since Web 2.0 is all about connecting and interacting with people around the web, it’s a good idea to try and connect with your target market on more than one site, if possible. But even if you search by email, you may not always find your contacts (different email address, typo’s, etc.).

One way to let people know where they can find and connect with you is through your email signature. But until now, you would usually just have to create a link to your profile, which is easy to miss or ignore. Here are a couple cool tools to help your email signature come to life.

One neat tool is Hyplet.com (recommendation courtesy of Reggie over at MyTechOpinion). They give you the option to set up a personal “ID” that can be used as an email signature in a variety of webmail services, as well as Outlook and Outlook Express. You can also copy and paste the html, and use anywhere that allows html, such as Wordpress, Myspace, Flickr, and Facebook. They include links to many different social networks, as well as different Instant Messengers. Downside, according to Reggie, is that he had a few issues with formatting text (bolding and increasing font size) in Firefox, but it seemed to work fine in Internet Explorer.

Another thing they offer, though, are their Hyplet flyers, which have lots of possibilities. They definitely catch the eye, and could be used to promote your blog, a new property, or almost anything you can think of. And because Hyplet is free and it only takes a couple minutes to customize one, you could swap these out every month or every week, and catch your readers’ eye with something new.

Another tool is WiseStamp Signature. This is a plugin for Firefox that lets you create an html signature, and include links to a wide variety of IMs and social networks. Great tool, as it lets people see at a glance where they can find you on the web, and allows them to choose the method that is most convenient for them.

It installs into your browser, and you have the option to create several signatures and use whichever you need. You can set it to automatically insert, or you can manually insert. Simple and effective. Downside, this is for web based mail systems (Gmail, MSN, Hotmail, etc.) and cannot be used (as far as I know) with programs like Outlook. But it’s still a great tool, because it’s simple and effective.
