Saving time with Google Reader

Have you ever found a website or blog that had tons of great info, and you bookmarked it, or tried to remember the URL, but always forgot to go back to it? It can be hard to keep up with all the information on the internet if you visit each site individually. A great way to manage your time, but still keep up with all the sites you’d like to is by using a feed reader. My feed reader of choice is Google Reader. Here’s a great video that explains a little more about what it is and how to use it:
Nearly every news site you go to, as well as basically any blog, will have an RSS feed that you can subscribe to. So whether it’s something like the Wall Street Journal or Fast Company’s magazine, or your favorite real estate related blog, Google Reader makes it much easier to keep up with important news.
Other ways you can take save some time with a feed reader are:
- Subscribe to local events from your newspaper or other local sites, and use those as reasons to “touch” your database, by sharing local events they might not know about
- Subscribe to the RSS feed of a Google search result for your name. This lets you keep track of any time someone mentions you on the web. Great for staying aware and active on the web.
- Subscribe to the RSS feed of a Google search result for big businesses in your area. You can get an early heads up if they are bringing new employees to town, or making changes that could affect some of your clients.
- Subscribe to the RSS feed of a Twitter search for your area, so that you can continue to find local people to connect with
- Subscribe to your own blogs feed so you know what it looks like to others, so you can be on top of things in case you ever run into any technical trouble
- Subscribe to different blogs to get marketing ideas (hint, hint!), ideas for content for your own blog (not plagiarism, just inspiration!) or simply get more pleasure reading done in less time.
Do you have some favorite real estate RSS feeds that you are currently subscribed to? Please share below.
