Weekend Web 2.0 Wrap-Up

Welcome to my inaugural Web 2.0 Marketing Minute post! Each week I’ll touch on different aspects of Web 2.0, and ways to use them to increase your Inner Circle, provide consistency in your Internet marketing, web presence and generate more referrals.

Wikipiedia defines Web 2.0 as:

Web 2.0 is a trend in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aims to facilitate creativity, information sharing, and, most notably, collaboration among users. These concepts have led to the development and evolution of web-based communities and hosted services, such as social-networking sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies.

Basically, Web 2.0 is the development of interaction on the web. Instead of a static website, which give a website owner no opportunity to hear back from their customers or network with colleagues and other professionals, Web 2.0 allows interaction from many parties.

Examples can include:

  • Blogs – allow more personalized information than static websites. Your customers can get to know you (your views, opinions, expertise) through the posts you write. They can also let you know their opinions, likes, and dislikes by posting comments on your blog
  • Social Networking – sites designed to let you take your networking beyond just your regional area. Most people have heard of sites such as Facebook and Twitter and are thought to be utilized mostly by college students, but the reality is that the average age for users of these sites (especially Facebook) has reached 25+, and that number is continuing to grow as more and more business professionals begin to utilize them for networking. Additionally, there are sites such as ActiveRain, WannaNetwork, RealTown which are social networking sites specifically for real estate professionals.
  • Another examples of Web 2.0 would be social bookmarking, which lets users tag sites they find valuable, and allows content to grow in popularity based not on a large advertising budget, but on it’s usefulness to consumers. Sites like Del.icio.us and StumbleUpon allow you to tag sites, and Flickr does the same with photos. Even YouTube allows the viral spread of popular videos that previously would never be seen by millions of viewers.

In the upcoming posts, we will cover lots of ways to use integrate Web 2.0 sites into your current real estate marketing plan. Until then, consider taking some time to check some of these sites out.
