Weekend Web 2.0 Wrap-Up:

To be seen as an expert and get clients, you need to be seen. In this socially-connected Web 2.0 world, sometimes this is harder than it looks.

You’ve spent the time seeking out and adding friends on your social network that meet your business goals. But they don’t know you from Adam. Regularly updating your status helps by letting them know what you are doing. Commenting on other people’s pictures, profiles and comments let’s them know you are a real person with interest in your clients. Linking to your newest blog post shows them what you know.

But this is what many of the other people in your network are doing as well, and it can be hard to be seen above all the noise. A great way to go beyond what others’ are doing is by sharing valuable content that isn’t yours.

For example, think about how often you would show up in your Friends News Feed on Facebook if you regularly shared good blog posts and articles about real estate in your area that you didn’t write. Not only do you have more chances to give them the info they are looking for, you’re not promoting yourself. And people really appreciate that. They’ll see you more and more frequently as you become more active, and they’ll remember that it was you that shared the article that solved their problem. So when the time comes, you’ll be the one whose opinion they’ll seek out, or who they come to directly to work with.

Dave Smith at Real Estate Blog Lab has a post on syndicating your blog content onto YourStreet, which is a great idea. It’s a neat site with a lot of potential. I think it’s also another great place to find content to share. They provide a News Widget that you can add to your site, offering local content to your readers.

They also offer a desktop widget for you to keep an eye on local news as it’s published, which you can then share as a Note on Facebook, Twitter, or any of your other social networks.

Check it out, and give it a try. You may be surprised at what sharing information can do for your business!
